10 questions. Based on the Thomas-Kilmann model. Discover your dominant style and what it means for your relationships.
Based on the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument, this quiz identifies whether you tend to Collaborate, Compete, Compromise, Avoid, or Accommodate — and what that means for your relationships and career.
A conflict management style is the characteristic way a person tends to respond when they encounter disagreement, tension, or opposition. Psychologists Kenneth Thomas and Ralph Kilmann developed their influential model in the 1970s, identifying five distinct approaches based on two dimensions: assertiveness (how much you push for your own needs) and cooperativeness (how much you consider others' needs).
The five styles — Competing, Collaborating, Compromising, Avoiding, and Accommodating — are not fixed personality traits. Most people use all five at different times. But we do each have a dominant style that shows up most often, especially under stress.
Understanding your style helps you recognize blind spots, build stronger relationships, and make more intentional choices in difficult conversations. The most effective conflict resolvers are those who can flex between styles based on what the situation calls for.
